  • The Second Amman City Conference: Sustainability, Participation and Urban Governance, 4 – 8 December 2011
    King Hussein Cultural Center, Ras al-Ain, Amman

     

Al Urdun Al Jadid Research Center (UJRC) and the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) are organizing the National Conference entitled "The Second Amman City Conference: Sustainability, Participation and Urban Governance", held from 4 – 8 December 2011, at King Hussein Cultural Center, Ras al-Ain, Amman

The conference message is to reach better livable Amman through prompting principals of good urban governance, sustainability, interactive democracy, popular participation, and social responsibility.

The Greater Amman Municipality and Al Urdun Al Jadid Research Center seek to reach various social, economic, cultural, civil actors and experts to take part in the conference panels and workshops. The diversity of institutions and individuals who will take part in the conference will enhance the discussions, and at the end come up with tangible and practical recommendations about the future of the city of Amman.

  • Roundtable: Civil Society - Media Code of Conduct
     

Under the patronage of HE Taher Al-Masri, Deputy of the Upper House, UJRC organised a  roundtable entitled "Towards a Code of Conduct between CSOs and Media". The roundtable took place in May 2009 at Marmara Hotel in Amman.

This workshop is part of series of roundtable discussions the Center convenes, aiming at building confidence among CSOs, media institutions, private sector, parliament and the government.

 

  • Conference on Local Democracy in Jordan: Project of "Local Democracy Assessment in Jordan"


    Al Urdun Al Jadid Research Center (UJRC) in cooperation with the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) together convened a joint conference entitled "Local Democracy in Jordan”, on March 11, 2009 held at Holiday Inn Hotel in Amman.

    The conference aims to present and discuss the results of the national report on the assessment of local democracy in Jordan, a report that has been prepared on the basis of the outcome of the work of four local reports, that were placed on the following municipalities: Resifeh (Zarqa Governorate), Jerash (Jerash Governorate), Mafraq (Mafraq Governorate) and Ma’an (Ma’an Governorate).

    The reports were prepared by experts and local officials, in an attempt to identify the reality of the democratic process at the local government level, and to locate the strengths and weaknesses points, to come up with recommendations and suggestions that aim to develop local democracy in Jordan.

    The workshop is part of International IDEA’s project “State of Local Democracy (SoLD) Assessment in the Arab World”, involving similar activities in four countries: Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Yemen. This research project will be implemented over a period of 18 months, as part of IDEA’s programme in the Arab World.

    The project is implemented with collaboration of local partner organizations, where UJRC is the implementing organization in Jordan.

    In the earlier stages of the project UJRC and International IDEA convened a 3-day consecutive training workshop entitled: “State of Local Democracy in the Arab World: Local Democracy Assessment in Jordan”, held on July 14 to 16, 2008, at Holiday Inn Hotel, Amman, Jordan

 

  • Roundtable: Rental Draft Law

UJRC held a roundtable discussion entitled "Rental Draft Law”, on March 7, 2009, at the Royal Cultural Center, Amman, Jordan.

The roundtable consisted of two major sessions; first one is an analytical reading into the rental draft law, where the economic, social and humanitarian dimensions of the law will be discussed.

Second session topic is remarks from the civil society and business associations on the draft law.

 

  • Media and Civil Society: Roundtable Discussion at Jerusalem Hotel

    UJRC is launching a new project entitled “Building the Trust in Jordanian Civil Society”: a series of roundtable discussions that address various societal sectors, aiming to build public trust in Jordanian CSOs.

    UJRC held the first roundtable on Thursday, October 9, 2008, at Jerusalem Hotel, under title “Media and Civil Society: towards better understanding”.

  • Workshop on Assessing Local Democracy in Jordan

    The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA), together with Al Urdun Al Jadid Research Center (UJRC), are conducting a 3-day consecutive training workshop entitled: “State of Local Democracy in the Arab World: Local Democracy Assessment in Jordan”. This will be held on July 14 to 16, 2008, at Holiday Inn Hotel, Amman, Jordan

    This workshop is part of International IDEA’s project “State of Local Democracy (SoLD) Assessment in the Arab World”, involving similar activities in four countries: Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Yemen. This research project will be implemented over a period of 18 months, as part of IDEA’s programme in the Arab World.

    The project is implemented with collaboration of local partner organizations, where UJRC is the implementing organization in Jordan. UJRC is also the ACE regional electoral resources centre for the Arab region.

    The main focus of the workshop is assessing the level of local democracy in four municipalities in Jordan: Rusaifah, Maan, Mafraq and Jarash.

     

  • Two-day National Conference on CSR

    UJRC convened the First National Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility on March 30-31, 2008. The conference summoned private sector businesses with a wide audience of stakeholders; business associations, labour unions, supervisory commissions, civil society organisations and other. The conference culminated by launching the Jordanian Forum for Social Responsibility (JFSR), with many participants registering as founding members of the JFSR.

  • Wide-scale Study Days project reaping its successes

    In March 2008 UJRC held the seventh study day for civil society leaders and activists on “Good Governance in Civil Society Organisations”. Speakers investigated the philosophy of good governance within the role that CSOs could play in countering corruption in Jordan.
